James Karlsen is senior researcher for regional development at Agderforskning and an associate professor at The University of Agder. He is also affiliated with the Orkestra, Basque Institute of Competitiveness in Spain. He has a master’s degree in Economic Geography from The University of Oslo, Norway and a Ph.D in Industrial Management from the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Trondheim, Norway. James has worked in national and international R&D projects. He has also previously worked in the public sector for ten years with industrial and regional development issues. His main research interests include innovation systems, the role of the university in regional development, territorial development and action research. He has published many international articles and books covering these themes.
